As far as I'm concerned, a dutch oven pot is a must have piece of kitchen equipment. Dutch ovens are so versatile because they are made of cast iron and have a heavy lid, so they can be used for soups, roasts, bread and even cooking over a campfire. Plus, when they are well cared for, they can last a lifetime, so they are worth the investment.
All of the recipes included here are gluten free and delicious. I'm sure you'll find something you love!

What is so great about a dutch oven cooking anyways?
You may be wondering if it's worth dropping a chunk of money on a dutch oven. Especially if you have other pots and pans that can do the job. I believe the dutch oven is a critical piece of kitchen equipment.
A dutch oven can come as a seasoned cast iron or enamel coated pan. It has a fitted lid and is suitable for using on the stove top or inside the oven. Because it is suitable for high temperatures, you can even use the cast iron type to cook on a grill or open fire for camping.
My cast iron pot was a lifesaver when we lost our power and water during hurricane Helene. I made soup, tacos, bacon and eggs, and roasted vegetables over several days cooking on our propane grill.
Because cast iron pans retain heat, you can cook over low heat for a longer time and the lid keeps in the moisture to make sure your meats don't dry out.
What foods can you cook in a dutch oven?
You can use a dutch oven pot to cook most anything from loaves of bread to a whole chicken. They are perfect for making a one pot meal.
I use mine all the time to make soups and stews - It works great for a hearty beef stew and chili.
You can also use it for deep frying things like the delicious donuts at the bottom of the list!
If you're using a cast iron dutch oven that does not have an enamel coating, you may want to avoid long cook times for recipes with acidic ingredients like tomato sauce or citrus as they can damage the seasoning on the pan. Also be cautious of cooking with red wine in your enamel coated pot, as it can stain.
