If you need one more way to enjoy fresh peaches this peach season, run straight to the kitchen and make a batch of this peach compote.  This delicious peach sauce is made of fresh peaches, sugar, cinnamon and vanilla - just four simple ingredients unlike the fruit sauces you find in the stores.

This easy peach compote recipe only takes 15 minutes to prepare and is great option to top pancakes and waffles, french toast, ice cream, yogurt, and more. We even use it to mix with vanilla ice cream for peach milkshakes!

    Ingredient Notes

This simple peach compote recipe uses just four ingredients.

Ingredients for peach compote sitting on a white table.
    • Peaches - I've used fresh ripe peaches, but frozen peaches will also work.  I would avoid canned peaches since they will get too soft during the cooking process.
    • Sugar - White sugar helps the peach compote to gel up when cooked.  I haven't tried it with any other sugars, but I believe coconut sugar would work just as well.
    • Cinnamon - Ground cinnamon is the perfect compliment to peaches.
    • Vanilla Extract - Vanilla is a subtle enhancement to the flavor of this compote.

See recipe card for full ingredient list and quantities.

    How to Make Peach Compote

This simple fruit sauce is one of the easiest recipes you will ever make!  Peeling the peaches is optional, but make sure to remove the peach pits.  I have cut the peaches into small cubes, but you can also mash them with a potato masher or even puree them with an immersion blender, if you'd like a less chunky sauce.

Fresh peaches, sugar, cinnamon and vanilla combined in a saucepan.

STEP 1: Combine the peach chunks, sugar, cinnamon and vanilla in a medium saucepan over medium heat.

Cooked peach compote in a saucepan.

STEP 2: Cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. The peaches will be soft and the juices should thicken a bit.

A spoon scooping up a bit of peach compote from the saucepan.

STEP 3: Allow the compote to cool to room temperature before transferring it to an airtight container, I like to use mason jars. Then store the jar in the refrigerator.

    Storage

Store the fruit compote in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one month.

If you notice any signs of spoilage, like mold, discoloration or sour smell discard the compote.
