Ingredient Notes
- Ground chicken - Using lean ground chicken makes this stir fry filling with less fat than beef. Plus it's so simple and quick to cook! You could substitute cubed chicken breast, ground turkey or ground beef if you prefer.
- Sesame Oil - Sesame oil provides that rich flavor you expect from a stir fry.
- Honey - A little sweetness balances the strong tangy flavors of vinegar, soy sauce and sesame. If you don't have honey, you can substitute a little brown sugar.
- Vegetables - The great thing about making easy stir fry recipes is being able to use whatever vegetables you like or have on hand. I used fresh green beans and red bell peppers in this recipe, but broccoli florets, pea pods, onions, mushrooms, water chestnuts and carrots would all be delicious additions.
- Rice Vinegar - Provides a little bite to the stir fry flavor. Don't be tempted to replace it with any other type of vinegar. Rice vinegar should be naturally gluten free, but double check your product label to make sure.
- Gluten Free Soy Sauce - If you're following a gluten free diet, make sure you select a gluten free soy sauce or tamari. Soy sauce is an ingredient that usually contains hidden gluten.
- Cornstarch - Starch is used to thicken up the stir fry sauce. If you are avoiding corn, you can replace this with tapioca starch.
- Red pepper flakes - We love spicy food at my house, but if you don't then you can leave the red pepper flakes out or reduce the amount used.
- Garlic and ginger - I have used fresh ginger and garlic in this recipe, but I love using the tubes of garlic paste and ginger paste when I'm in a rush. They can usually be found in the produce section of the grocery store.
See recipe card for full ingredient list and quantities.
Substitutions & Variations
- No Ground Chicken - Use boneless skinless chicken breast cut into bite sized pieces. You could also replace the ground chicken with ground turkey, ground beef or even tofu if you want a vegetarian meal.
- No Honey - Replace the honey with 1 tablespoon of brown sugar.
- Make it Corn Free - Replace cornstarch with tapioca starch.
- Make it Soy Free - Use coconut aminos in place of soy sauce.
- No Sesame Oil - Use olive oil in place of sesame oil. The measurement is the same.
How to make Ground Chicken Stir Fry
This recipe is so simple to make. It only takes about 15 minutes to cook this dish in just one pan!

STEP 4: Combine the soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, water, cornstarch and red pepper flakes in a small bowl or mason jar. Shake well and the pour over the meat and vegetables. Cook and stir for about 2 minutes until the sauce has thickened.
Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Serve over cooked rice, noodles, or even cauliflower rice.
Storage
Store leftovers in the refrigerator for 3-4 days, and reheat as needed! If stored over rice, sprinkle a little bit of water over the dish before reheating in the microwave to make sure the rice doesn’t dry out.
