Here are some helpful tips to ensure your holiday desserts come out perfect every time!
- The first time you make a recipe follow the ingredients and instructions exactly. After you have successfully made the recipe, then you can experiment with swapping ingredients.
- When following a gluten free recipe, it is always best to use the gluten free flour recommended by the recipe writer. Using another brand may changes the results.
- Measure your flour properly. Weighing your ingredients is the best option and a kitchen scale is an inexpensive tool that lasts forever. If you don't have a scale, make sure you're not scooping your measuring cup into the flour. Use a spoon to stir the flour, then spoon it into the measuring cup and level off the top.
- Measure out your ingredients ahead of time. Although it creates some extra dishes, this ensures you won't miss an ingredient if you get interrupted during baking.
- Invest in an oven thermometer. Ovens vary in their temperature and that can have a big impact on how your recipe turns out. Not only can the set temperature be wrong, but frequently ovens will indicate they are preheated when they are still well below the correct temperature.
- Begin checking your bake to see if it is done a few minutes before the cook time indicated on the recipe. You don't want to end up with a dry, overbaked cake for the holidays.
- If a recipe indicates a chilling time or "cool completely", don't try to rush it. Make sure you've planned enough time to allow the cooling to happen.
